What is a Spiceutical? The Brand Philosophy Behind Kusom
A Spiceutical is exactly whatthe word sounds like: a spice that works like a pharmaceutical — but withoutthe side effects, without the prescription, and without the disconnect fromyour food. At Kusom, every masala blend is built around a specific therapeuticgoal drawn from Ayurvedic texts and validated against modern nutritionalscience. The result is a masala that doesn't just flavour your dal or sabzi —it actively works to support your health while you eat.
The philosophy isstraightforward: your kitchen is your first pharmacy. The herbs and spicessitting in your masala box — turmeric, ashwagandha, shatavari, hing, garlic, cinnamon, and dozens more — have been used for thousands of years in Ayurvedicmedicine to treat everything from inflammation to heart disease to anxiety. Kusom Spiceutical takes these ingredients seriously, blending them at the rightratios, in the right combinations, to create masalas that work.
Founder's Story (From Hospital Bed to 10,000+ Healthier Homes: Rakhi'sMission)
This isn't a business story. This is a revolution that started with a crisis. Meet Rakhi Goel, the heart behind Kusom Spiceutical.
Five years ago, Rakhi found herself in a hospital bed for over a month, fighting a severe kidney condition. She survived, but the aftermath was devastating. She was left dealing with crushing hormonal imbalance, persistent digestive issues,
extreme fatigue and hair loss, living in a body that felt like a stranger. The doctor handed her a solution: a confusing schedule of 15+ daily pills, supplements, and vitamins and tasteless meal schdule.
"I spent more time managing my pill schedule than living my life," Rakhi recalls. "I'd recovered from one illness, only to feel imprisoned by another system."
After seeing her stressed, her mother in law started giving her some desi nuskhas containing turmeric, ginger, black pepper, tulsi, alovera etc which was based on traditional spices and some herbs, which helped her a lot. Which gave birth to her curusity towards spices and herbs combination. To gain more knowledge she consulted her health with an Ayurveda practioner and eat some herbs based medicines, which helped her to recover effectively and efficiently.
After realizing how anxious she was, her mother-in-law began feeding her desi nuskhas with turmeric, ginger, black pepper, tulsi, alovera, and other traditional spices and herbs, which helped her much. This sparked her curiosity for spice and herb combinations. To learn more, she saw an Ayurvedic practitioner and ate
some herbal remedies, which helped her recover quickly and effectively.
Rakhi realized that spices, which carry medicinal value, every Indian already uses them daily. There's no new habit to form, no schedule to remember, no pill fatigue. Spices were the perfect delivery system—something we consume
willingly, even joyfully, every single day therapeutic Ayurvedic herbs— contain concentrated medicinal compounds that have been clinically studied for centuries. These herbs were traditionally consumed as separate preparations, churnas, or pills, but as a common man are not aware of the variety of herbs, there benefits, and quantities they should consume like Arjuna for heart strength, Ashwagandha for stress resilience, and Giloy for immunity, etc.
Rakhi had her breakthrough moment. What if the pharmacy wasn't in a pill bottle, but already in our spice rack? Rakhi realized the genius of combining both worlds.
By blending therapeutic Ayurvedic herbs with familiar culinary spices, she could create formulations that were simultaneously medicinal and delicious, scientifically precise yet culturally authentic, powerful enough to work but simple enough to use daily.
The spices would enhance bioavailability—turmeric needs black pepper, for instance—while masking any bitter herb tastes and creating familiar flavors families would actually enjoy. Most importantly, Ayurveda's 5,000-year-old wisdom of synergy meant these ingredients worked better together than isolated supplements ever could. It wasn't just about adding nutrition; it was about creating therapeutic synergy that addressed root causes, not just symptoms.
But Rakhi didn't just want to heal herself. She wanted to spare others the struggle. She spent the next three years consulting Ayurvedic doctors and practitioners, studying ancient texts and modern research, experimenting with 100+
formulations in her kitchen, and conducting clinical trials with real families. Every blend had to meet three non-negotiable criteria: clinically effective dosing of therapeutic herbs, seamless integration into everyday cooking, and
taste so good that families would actually want to use it daily. Her question was simple but powerful: "Why wait for illness when we can prevent it deliciously?"
After countless trials, Rakhi created what modern healthcare had failed to provide—pharmaceutical-grade Ayurvedic masala blends that support specific health conditions, integrate seamlessly into daily cooking, require no schedules or complicated routines, and actually taste amazing.
Each blend was precisely formulated: Pulsevie for cardiovascular support, Digesturn for digestion & gut health, HadBal for bones and joints and Zaroori for complete wellness with 17 adaptogenic and immune-supporting herbs. These weren't random mixtures—they were clinically supervised formulations where every ingredient had a specific therapeutic purpose, enhanced by traditional spices for bioavailability and taste.
Rakhi's vision wasn't about profit. It was about purpose. "If these blends saved me from supplement slavery and helped me rebuild my health, they can empower every family in India," she says. "Every meal can be medicine. Every kitchen can be a pharmacy. That's not poetic language—that's biochemistry meeting culture. Spices give us the delivery system, herbs give us the therapeutic power, and Ayurvedic wisdom gives us the synergy. Together, they give us something modern healthcare couldn't: prevention that's sustainable
because it's delicious."
Prevention is better than cure. But prevention should also be delicious. This is why Kusom Spiceutical exists—not to sell masalas, but to transform lives, one sprinkle at a time. Because Rakhi discovered that the answer to modern health crises wasn't in another pill bottle. It was already in our kitchens, waiting to be rediscovered.
